carve caves on underground level

I know the multilevel feature is relatively fresh, and it very much smells like DA was not built with the intention of multilevel maps. But beeing new to this tool, it feels quite buggy.

The following scenario I do not know how to create, and I assume it has something to do with the way the “base level” is implemented, and other levels are “just patched on”:

If I wanted a cave to explore with the entrance to the underground level of a multistory building, I don’t see a way to make this possible in one map.

This is Level -1 of a testmap. I can carve some levels deep (not complaining about the limitations):

This is level 0 of the same map in the same condition.

As one can see, the digged hole and the walls of levels below 0 are not visible at level 0.

it very much looks like everything below level 0 is “in another instance of the map” and therefor not really properly connectable.

So, even though I can dig deep enough for my (current) needs, it’s not possible to create underground dungeons, especially not ones that connect to a structure that covers something that goes beyond this weird instance border between level 0 and -1.

(Also I think the limitations for elevations are too strong)

Is smoothing out the multilevel-implementation on the roadmap or at least something that itches you too?
Am I the only one having a problem with this?

Is there a (temporary) workaround (that I have not thought of yet)?
